General Assembly

The year has gone quickly and it is May once again. That means it is time for our General Assembly and this year it will be held on May 15th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. From 10:30 to 12:00 the Board of Directors will present to you the annual report before enjoying coffee together. We will take important votes and so the presence of you, dear members, is urgently needed.

Please make a note of the date in advance and consider to whom you will transfer your voting rights in case you are unable to attend on that day.

You will receive all information on the agenda of the General Assembly, the voting, and the elections of the Board of Directors as well as the link to register for the event in a separate newsletter in the coming days.

Etno Mreža Diplomatic Visit in Šid

IWC Members are cordially invited to participate in The Ethno Network (Etno Mreža) diplomatic visit to the Whitework & Ruthenian embroidery artisans colony in Šid on Friday May 10th. This is the inaugural colony of this type for this town and so is quite an exciting event!

  • 11:00 to 11:30 - Tour of the whitework Colony Presenting unique potentials of Šid municipality, Touring the sales exhibition of authentic local products, Exchange with artisans and family photo

  • 12:00 to 12:15 - Ride to the family house of the Šid modernist painter, Sava Sumanovic
  • 12:15 to 13:00 - Visit to the family house of Sava Sumanovic Guided tour of the exhibition, Presentation of the naive painter Ilija Basicevic Bosilj
  • 13:00 to 13:30 - Visit to the church history museum Guided tour of the exhibition

WHY: Aiming to support economic empowerment of women by preserving the country's cultural heritage and promoting its touristic potential, Ethno Network under the auspices of the Canadian Embassy organises colonies as a masterclass program of old crafts across Serbia. Ethno Network, together with NALED and the diplomatic and donor community in Serbia, has organised more than 20 colonies in 8 cities across Serbia since 2016. 

The colonies extend a unique opportunity for crafters to network with their fellow artisans and grow their skills in old crafts by taking part in a specialised four-day program. Each colony includes a diplomatic day for national and international officials and media to visit and support the crafters and explore some of the unique historical and cultural sights and gastronomy of the area.

The SWAG team collected about 40 gifts for young teens. The donations were handed over on Thursay April 25th at the traditional Easter receptions at Beli Dvor. Children without parental care, children with difficulties in intellectual development and socially vulnerable children from homes, associations, and schools throughout Serbia had the opportunity to receive Easter gifts from Their Royal Highnesses.

Thank-you to all our dear members who participated in this charity project.

Rachel's term as IWC Secretary is coming to an end as she prepares for her next adventure and so the IWC Board needs a new volunteer to take her place. 

Learn new skills in a flexible and relaxed environment whilst contributing to the fabulous work of the IWC. As club secretary, you will get to know all the members, work and collaborate with the other volunteers on diverse and interesting projects for the IWC and have a hand in our lovely club’s growth.
